In January 2001, members of the Callide Valley Landcare Group moved to develop some of their past project experiences into a holistic plan for the future sustainability of the Valley.

Major concerns of the group include the changes in waterways which affect aquifer recharge capability, reduced land cover, permeability and sustainability and the proliferation of weeds.

Some of our projects, including our Softwood Scrub Regeneration Project,  are funded by Envirofund, or the Natural Heritage Trust, National Action Plan for Salinity and Water Quality.

We will also be working together to improve land management in the area,  and will maintain the services that we currently offer to members and the community, as well as offering training opportunities in Current Recommended Management Practices.

The Callide Valley Landcare Group maintains equipment such as ploughs, weed burners, GPS and spray units for Group and individual member use.

We operate an EPA Authorised, Volunteer, non-profit nursery. You will find our species list on his website.

Group members have also shown a keen interest in the Natural Sequence Farming techniques developed by  Mr Peter Andrews in the Hunter Valley and trialled throughout Australia.

Regular Field Days and Community events are a part of our group activities. Check out our activities page for past and future activities.

Our strategic plan depends on partnerships with organizations such as the Fitzroy Basin Association, Dawson Catchment Coordinating Association, the Banana Shire Council and other community groups. We also have strong ties to CS Energy and AngloCoal with both sponsorship and cooperative projects. We have been fortunate to have the on-going support of our local offices of both the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, for over ten years.
