What we do ![]() ![]()
![]() In January 2001, members of the Callide Valley Landcare Group moved to develop some of their past project experiences into a holistic plan for the future sustainability of the Valley. Major concerns of the group include the changes in waterways which affect aquifer recharge capability, reduced land cover, permeability and sustainability, and the proliferation of weeds. Callide Valley Landcare's primary goal is to assist members of the community both rural and residential with managing the natural resources and environment of the Callide Valley. We are a means for individuals to be involved with, contribute to, and have a say in the natural resource management of the Callide Valley. To rural landowners we provide tools, training, and funding assistance. To members of the many small towns within our region we provide a way for them to become involved with the protection and maintenance of the local natural environment even if they don't own any land. Callide Valley Landcare Association owns and maintains equipment that includes plows, spray packs, GPS, and a flame weeder for the use of our members. Our members also run an DERM approved volunteer non-profit native plant nursery providing trees and shrubs for our own revegetation projects as well as to the mining industry, council and the general public We maintain a strong relationship with other natural resource management groups including neighboring Queensland Landcare groups as well as the Dawson Catchment Coordinating Association (DCCA), the Fitzroy Basin Authority (FBA) and the Banana Shire Council. We have been fortunate to have the on-going support of our local offices of both the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines for over ten years. Also we have strong ties to Anglocoal and Bluecare Anglicare with both sponsorship and cooperative projects.
